Huge Sahuarita plan moves forward
By Ernesto Portillo Jr
The Sahuarita Town Council Monday unanimously approved a general plan that could lead to the development and annexation of 15,000 homes west of the town in an area that includes open space, active mines and worried rural residents. In addition to the 4,200-acre general plan, the council approved seven other major plan amendments that could lead to a total annexation of 25 square miles to the town's current 31 square miles.
The next step is the annexation of 4,200 acres that stretch west along West Twin Buttes Road and south along South Mission Road. The proposal also calls for the annexation of 600 acres of state trust land adjoining the American Nevada Corp. property.
