Sahuarita is still a hot spot for home building

By Joe Pangburn

Sahuarita is one part of the Tucson region that’s leaving all the others in the dust. The town has issued more than 10 times the number of permits as Oro Valley, more than six times the number of permits as Marana and nearly double the permits of Tucson.  The 221 permits issued by Sahuarita in the first five months of the year is second only to Pima County’s 271. The two jurisdictions account for nearly 68% of the total 727 for all jurisdictions. By itself, Sahuarita accounts for 30%.

Foreclosure sales accounted for 29% of the 316 resale home sales in May, down from the 363 foreclosure sales in April that accounted for more than 35% of resale sales. The median price for foreclosure sales was also down in May to $122,000, from $125,000 in April.
