How to Pick a Professional Remodeler

To continue celebrating National Remodeling Month (May), SAHBA talked to member Sierra Remodeling & Homebuilders about the benefits of using a professional remodeler. When considering a remodeling project, look to a professional who is committed to responsible business practices, quality construction, and reliable customer service.

“Remodeling an existing home is like taking a part a puzzle and putting it back together in a new shape,” said Otto Richter, Senior Kitchen Designer of Sierra Remodeling & Homebuilders. “The problem that most people run into is it takes specific tools and skill sets to do these jobs effectively. Since remodelers deal with these issues daily, we make sure the job is done right the first time and in a timely manner.”

Why consider remodeling?

While reasons vary – such as adding space; improving energy efficiency; upgrading counters, cabinets, and appliances; or even increasing the resale value of your home – there are several reasons to remodel.

“The home typically is the biggest investment people have,” said Richter. “In order to protect that investment, they need to get the right help from the right people. With Sierra Remodeling's experience, we have a courteous and professional staff to get the job done to protect (the client's) investment.”

What are the benefits?

“Having a better insulated home after replacing those old windows will increase the comfort level as well as the value,” Richter said. “Also, replacing a worn-out kitchen with gleaming countertops and new appliances will increase the value of the home and give many years of comfort.”

How can I find a qualified remodeler?

“Ask around to friends that have had work done by different companies. Talk to people. They will let you know whether they had good or bad work done by that company,” said Remodeling Coordinator Rick Brewer.

When interviewing a remodeler, remember you're buying a service not a product. The quality of service the remodeler provides determines the quality of the finished project and satisfaction.
