Remodeling Pays Back in Comfort and Value

That avocado green stove, those harvest gold tiles, or the bathroom that requires a waiting line to use: whatever the impetus, maybe it's time to remodel.

Changes can breathe new life into an old structure. During May, the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association (SAHBA) is celebrating the structural, lifestyle and design benefits homeowners can gain from remodeling.

Top five reasons to remodel:

  1. Now is the time to take advantage of low interest rates.

  2. Remodeling contributes to the repair and upkeep of a home.

  3. Structural improvements can increase energy-efficiency.

  4. Remodeling can raise the home's value.

  5. Kitchen remodels enhance functionality.

Thousands of local homeowners flip the style of their humble abodes each year. Even current economic conditions can't stop them from showing their house some love.

Remodeling enables homeowners to recreate floor plans and add contemporary design elements to raise resale value. But most importantly, remodeling aims to increase the comfort level of the homeowner, said O'Brien, a SAHBA member.

“Adding storage space, walk-in showers and ultimately making the home beautiful are huge benefits owners will enjoy,” said O'Brien.

Out with the old and in with the new does not have to be a long complicated process.

SAHBA Remodelers suggest these tips to help organize the process:

Licensed, bonded and insured remodelers are held to higher standards by organizations such as the SAHBA Remodelers.
