Carpet Adds Color and Texture
Homeowners looking to improve their home should look to the most abused and overused part of their home, the flooring. New carpeting can help a home's resale value while also adding texture and color to the design of the home.
While considering new flooring, homeowners should do their research and spend time thinking about the type of flooring that would work best in their home. Carpeting is a common choice and comes standard in many new homes. Like each choice of flooring, carpet comes with a list of benefits.
“With all of the different styles, colors, and materials available, it is easy to get caught up in everything and make the wrong choice,” said Scott Michels of Andrew Lauren Interiors.
Carpet provides warmth and comfort. Carpet offers actual thermal resistance, or R-value. In the winter, it retains warm air longer which conserves energy. Carpet also offers a comfortable place to sit, play or work while giving a room an overall warmer feeling.
Carpet adds style to a home.
“Homeowners can choose from a large variety of carpet styles and colors, giving them a way to personalize their home,” said Michels, a SAHBA member. “Carpet can be a neutral foundation, or it can be a focal point with vibrant colors and stronger bolder patterns and textures.”
Carpet softens and reduces slips and falls, is perfect for cushioning footsteps and minimizing injuries when falls do happen. Carpet provides more protection for toddlers and older individuals.
Carpet reduces noise. Carpet helps absorb the many sounds that make homes noisy. Also, carpet helps to block sound transmission to rooms below. And carpet on stairs helps mask the sound of constant foot traffic.
Carpet also is durable. When properly cleaned and maintained, carpet can maintain its life and beauty for many years.
“Any consumer looking for new flooring should do their research before purchasing,” Michels suggested. “The internet is a good resource for homeowners. Most carpet manufacturers have websites with great information.”
The Carpet and Rug Institute has a website, www.carpet-rug.com, with information on the durability of carpets as well as ways for homeowners to clean their carpet.
