How to Improve a Neglected Garage
Homeowners wanting to improve the aesthetics and the value of their home can look to an unexpected room for improvement. While in most cases the garage is one of the most used rooms in the home, it is one of the most neglected rooms. Many homeowners walk through their garage everyday.
“The garage is the homeowners' front door so they should make sure the area is pleasing to them,” said Nick Griggs of Premier Garage of Southern Arizona.
While garage enhancement still is very new, it is increasing in popularity as more people learn about the benefits.
“Homeowners can streamline storage, create a work area, and add value to their home by giving their garage a makeover,” Griggs, a SAHBA member, said. “There are a lot of ways people can improve their garage, everyone's preference is unique.”
Homeowners can add cabinets, or specialty organizing racks add storage space to get organized.
By adding a floor coating system, homeowners can improve the overall look of their garage. Also, floor coatings protect floors from oil stains and tire marks.
Griggs suggests that new homeowners improve their garage sooner rather than later.
“It is harder for people who have lived in a house for a while to upgrade their garage because they have accumulated so much junk over the years,” Griggs said. “It also is easier to install the floor coating when the home is new because it doesn't have as many stains as older garages.”
However, homeowners who have lived in their home for a while can take the opportunity of improving their garage to go through their belongings and get rid of what they don't need. Homeowners might even be able to sell some of their unwanted items to help pay for their garage makeover.
The price of cabinet and floor coating systems vary depending on the size of the garage and what the homeowner wants to do. Premier Garage of Southern Arizona has around 50 different options for garage improvements.
There also are do-it-yourself kits for floor coatings. However, homeowners should do their research when choosing a company or product to make sure they get a quality product that will last.
