When Building Your Dream Home, Find a Professional
Celebrate National Homeownership Month (June) by doing your homework when building or purchasing your dream home.
“Home ownership is recognized as the cornerstone of family security, stability and prosperity. Home ownership strengthens the community, encourages civic responsibility, and provides a solid base from which residents can work to support their families and achieve their personal goals,” said SAHBA President Ed Taczanowsky.
In celebrating, the first thing to do is pick a professional.
“In general, there are values home building professionals follow to conduct business,” said Taczanowsky. “They believe homes should be well designed, built and located in attractive communities. Also, they need to have accessible educational, recreational and shopping facilities.”
Other qualities to look for when choosing a builder:
A strong responsibility to their customers and community.
Honesty guides their business policy. They believe in dealing fairly with their customers, employees, subcontractors and suppliers.
High standards of health, safety and sanitation in every home.
“An important sign of professionalism is whether the builder or contractor belongs to a home builders association like SAHBA or other professional trade organization,” said Taczanowsky. “SAHBA encourages members to research and develop new materials, building techniques and equipment, and improve methods of financing in order for buyers to receive the best value for their money.”
When buying a new home, you are purchasing more than just a structure. You're buying a package of services, and the quality of those services will have an effect on the enjoyment of your house.
“For the most part, the quality of a new home will be determined by the skill of the building professional who constructs it,” said Taczanowsky. “You will be in constant contact with your builder during and after construction process. Choose a builder you feel comfortable working with and feel best understands your needs.”
By doing your homework, you can look for a home with confidence and knowledge to help you make the best decision.
“For many, buying a new home will be the single largest purchase they'll ever make,” said Taczanowsky. “Make sure to protect that investment by buying a dream home from a qualified professional builder.”
SAHBA represents about 750 member businesses and 40,000 jobs serving the residential construction industry in Pima and Cochise counties.
