Sterling's Agron Named SAHBA Board Chairman
Randy Agron , Vice President & Chief of Operations for A.F. Sterling Home Builders, will lead the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association (SAHBA) as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Agron is taking rank as the housing market moves at an unsteady pace and is striving to recover. He is tackling economic issues and looking for ways to keep the industry strong.
In a typical year, the housing industry contributes $2 billion to local economy. Agron believes cooperation from internal and external resources is needed to safeguard 35,000 building related jobs in Southern Arizona.
During his term, he plans to address solutions to the “affordability crunch” new home buyers are facing by exploring an assortment of breaks for buyer and builder.
Temporary reductions or waivers on certain impact fees and freezing new permit and connection fees are two line items Agron is looking to crunch. In addition, he wants to urge governments to, according to State law, defer payments of fees until closing.
Agron is well-suited to take on the task of regulating finances. The CPA was the Treasurer for two years during his four-year service on SAHBA's Executive Board. He also is a Super PAC trustee.
The native Tucsonan graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Marketing and a MBA with an Accounting emphasis.
Agron served on the Amphitheater School District 's Blue Ribbon Budget Analysis Committee and worked as a Treasurer for LEAP AHEAD, the PAC that campaigned for approval of a facilities bond for the district.
He will lead 700 member companies that represent 35,000 jobs in the residential construction industry. He succeeds Art Flagg of KB Home whose one-year term expired.
Joining Agron as 2008 SAHBA Executive Officers are: First Vice Chair Steve Craddock (Lennar); Second Vice Chair Steve Washburn (Washburn Custom Builders); Secretary Martha Wright (Southwest Gas); and Treasurer John Shorbe (Canoa Development).
SAHBA represents about 750 member businesses and 40,000 jobs serving the residential construction industry in Pima and Cochise counties.
