Hot New Product: Consumers Love Louvered Roofs

Homeowners can now enjoy their outdoor living spaces at a temperature and light level that's comfortable year-round. With the new Equinox Louvered Roof, the touch of a button can give homeowners complete flexibility of light and weather control needs for any outdoor living area.

“Louvered roof systems have many advantages over traditional shade options,” said Rob Weaver, owner of Equinox Louvered Roofs. “They withstand the elements year-round with no maintenance, offering shade or sunlight on demand. Plus, they waterproof when closed.”

Each louvered roof is comprised of a set of blades that rotate in unison. These blades have a 160-degree range of motion with the ability to stop anywhere. This allows an exact regulation of the light, shade and ventilation desired.

When open, they allow for maximum solar warmth and light to enter the home. When closed, the louver's interlocking lips seal against wet weather, providing a waterproof structure.

“This system not only improves your decks, patios and outdoor areas, it also protects indoors,” said Weaver. “It prevents the sun's powerful rays from fading and damaging expensive window coverings, carpets and furniture.”

This system also protects your home's exterior walls from solar heat gain, thus reducing your summer cooling costs. All Equinox louvered roof systems are solar powered for cost-free operation.

Units can be attached to existing structures, built free-standing, or incorporated into existing solid roofs in a skylight fashion. Each Equinox Louvered Roof is designed to compliment the surrounding aesthetics and architecture.

“Design possibilities are endless with multiple materials, finishes and styles available,” said Weaver, a SAHBA member. “Virtually any look can be achieved to suit a homeowner's personal preferences.”

The Equinox system can be installed flat, pitched, gabled, or vertically for privacy screening and wind protection. Systems are affordably priced at $30 per square foot for complete structures.

“This system gives homeowners the flexibility to control their outdoor living environment,” said Weaver. “They can have the best of both worlds in a matter of seconds.”

The Equinox Louvered Roof is manufactured in Tucson and was named by SAHBA as the “Most Innovative New Product” for 2007.
