County needs all the water it can get
Re: the April 30 guest opinion "Storing CAP water now ensures future supply."
As elected members of the Central Arizona Project Board of Directors representing Pima County, we are in complete support of Mayor Bob Walkup and the City Council's decision to invest in necessary infrastructure to enable Pima County to take its full CAP allocation.
Our mayor and council have taken a bold step forward in doubling the purchase of CAP water to more than 144,172 acre-feet. This additional supply will help protect current residents from the ramifications of an extended drought and help preserve our quality of life for generations to come.
Tucson is wise to take all its allocation and store as much as possible as a hedge against drought. Our deepest thanks to Mayor Walkup, Councilwoman West and the entire Tucson City Council for making a difficult but critical policy decision that ensures Pima County can take its CAP allocation as soon as possible.
