Tucson City Council sends impact fee suspension to committee

By Joe Pangburn

More than 150 people in the construction industry rallied at El Presidio Park Feb. 10 to show support for a proposal to suspend some residential construction impact fees in the city of Tucson for one year. The City Council agreed to establish a committee to study the idea brought up by Councilman Rodney Glassman.

Glassman proposed the idea of suspending the impact fees for roads and parks. The directors of the two city departments involved said they didn't believe a one-year suspension would negatively impact their areas. Development Services Director Ernie Duarte suggested the suspension might even boost his department.

The council will review the committee's recommendations at a March 10 special session.
