Pima voters OK school tech district

By Jeff Commings

Proposition 400 passed in all 11 Pima County school districts, which means a Joint Technological Education District for enhanced career and technical classes for high school students is likely to begin next fall. The proposition passed by a 3-1 ratio in Tucson-area districts, though some rural districts passed it by a 4-1 majority.

The district will be funded with a property tax equal to $10 per $200,000 of a home's value, in addition to state funds based on enrollment.

Governing board members will act as representatives of each participating district, making curriculum and procedural decisions for the technological district. Existing sites will be upgraded with the funding, and more classes will be added. The district is expected to begin next fall.
