For over 18 months, SAHBA has been diligently working on the Line Extension Issue. Most members are aware of the changes to the policies for how new electric service is financed. The changes have resulted in additional costs totally nearly $8,000 per home. SAHBA has lobbied Corporation Commissioners, formed a coalition of local business groups and commissioned a White Paper on the topic which outlines policy alternatives. Just recently, more than 15 SAHBA members testified before the Corporation Commission about the adverse impact of the policy changes on job creation and economic recovery.
Through our efforts, and with the assistance of our coalition partners, the Commission has acknowledged these policies should be reviewed. There has been one formal workshop and SAHBA will push for others. In the interim, we continue to explore ways to mitigate the cost impacts of the policies yet balance the needs of the utilities and ratepayers.
