Chairman's Message

2011 Proves SAHBA's Commitment

SAHBA’s continued commitment to the home building industry – and to each and every one of our members – was put to the test in 2011.

The sluggish housing market continued to take a toll on our member companies. Declining revenue and a structural budget deficit resulted in a significant staff reorganization. Continued attempts by government to regulate the industry required our intervention. But in spite of these challenges, I’m proud to say we passed the test.

SAHBA remains a viable, relevant organization serving our members and contributing to the improved welfare of our community. Every day, the efforts of our professional staff are focused on ensuring our members receive value from SAHBA.

Engaging on Community Issues

While at times it might appear that SAHBA engages solely on the minutia of government matters affecting only “the builders”, our advocacy efforts are far greater. Yes, at the micro-level our efforts dictate redlining proposed ordinances, providing detailed comments and lobbying to win over the swing vote. However, at the macro-level, we’re working constantly to create a community-wide environment where all of our members can succeed and our region can prosper.

SAHBA actively represents its members in numerous efforts that go beyond just home building. Those efforts can be in a formal manner like serving on the City of Tucson Workforce and Economic Development Selection Committee or the Pima County Affordable Housing Commission.
