City Council Adopts Measure to Aid Development Along Streetcar Route This Tuesday the Tucson Mayor and Council took a positive step forward in adopting the West University Transition Area. This overlay zone helps facilitate development and redevelopment along the modern streetcar route. SAHBA spoke in support of the measure which should be helpful to local builders.
New Fall Protection Guidance The Industrial Commission of Arizona published the new Residential Fall Protection Guidance document effective January 1, 2012. This instruction establishes the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s (ADOSH) general enforcement policies and procedures when conducting inspections related to fall hazards in residential construction. This instruction also provides guidance to ADOSH compliance officers and the regulated community regarding criteria that an employer can consider when making a determination that the use of a conventional fall protection (CFP) system is infeasible or creates a greater hazard.
Impact Fees Reduced in Oro Valley At their meeting yesterday evening the Town Council adopted a revised impact fee schedule effective January 1. This is a result of coming into compliance with SB1525, a comprehensive impact fee reform bill pushed by SAHBA and HBACA.
Fees in Oro Valley will be reduced $3,063 per home. Multi-family and commercial fees decreased as well.

There Went Da Judge(s)!
The site visits for our annual awards program were held Thursday and Friday of last week, with a full complement of judges from within and outside our membership. These awards are taken with the seriousness they deserve, and the site visits are an important part of that. PLUS, where else can you enjoy a van chauffeured by Greg?
Judges: Carl Schroeder, Diane Krebs Carhuff, Jennifer Urias and Ramon Gaanderse;
standing Larry Gibbons, Teresa Olsen, and driver supreme Greg Miedema. Not pictured:

Congratulations Katherine Kent!

NLRB Collective Bargaining Rights Poster
There is a new employer posting requirement from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) concerning employees’ collective bargaining rights (right to unionize). The posting rule becomes effective on Jan. 31. The poster and additional information is available for download without charge on the NLRB website at www.nlrb.gov/poster. It must be hung in a conspicuous place with other workplace rights notices.
At least three lawsuits have been filed seeking to block this posting requirement, including one by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce www.courthousenews.com/2011/09/21/NLRB.pdf. As of this date, no temporary injunctions have been issued, but we will keep you informed if there are any delays or suspensions of the rule pending litigation.
